In Kisumu, the event was held at Kenya Industrial Research Development Institute (KIRDI) where the MSME business center was set up through a partnership through the Ministry of Industrialization, Trade and Enterprise Development, Microsoft Kenya, and Stanbic Kenya Foundation was launched.

Hon. Betty C. Maina, Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Industrialization, Trade, and Enterprise Development officially launched the MSME business center in Kisumu.

Pauline Mbayah, Head of the Stanbic Kenya Foundation, who was present during the three events said, “The main objective of this program is to address a skills gap within the market through the Digital learning and skills, specifically targeting those who have lost their jobs during the COVID-19 period, jobs seekers and businesses looking to reinvent themselves through the adoption of digital channels and tools.

We acknowledge the role the private sector plays in boosting the social and economic growth of the country, and therefore we are keen to work hand in hand with the government to address these gaps.”

Stanbic Bank Foundation also plans to identify trainers who will guide learners through the program at the various training centres across the country.

The Foundation intends to train over 1000 trainers who will be upskilled and seconded to the program as instructors. The program expects to place 2,000 youth into employment by the end of 2021.

The partnership serves as a demonstration of the role that private sector players can have in driving economic growth by partnering with government institutions in their efforts in building the capacity of the nation.
