Project Background
Stanbic Kenya Foundation has partnered with the Governments of Germany and Norway through the Employment promotion for women for the green transformation in Kenya (WE4D) programme, to support women-led green small enterprises in Kenya. This partnership strengthens business management skills through targeted training and facilitates access to formal financial services, driving business growth and job creation. Additionally, it promotes Kenya’s green transformation, advancing both economic development and environmental sustainability. WE4D is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). It is co-funded by the European Union (EU) and Norway.
The partnership will seek to support 300 small enterprises in the green sectors through provision of training and coaching services to businesses in Homabay, Kisii, Kisumu, Nyamira, Kakamega and Vihiga Counties.
The objective of the training and coaching is to handhold these businesses and support them to grow and access finance with the following outcomes:
- To create new employment /green jobs in the green sector
- To Improved employment situation in their businesses and
- To improve the business capacity of the SMEs:
Call for applications
Stanbic Kenya Foundation in Partnership with GIZ invite applications from Micro Small and Medium (MSMEs) Enterprises in Homabay, Kisii, Kisumu, Nyamira, Kakamega and Vihiga Counties to participate in the program.
Who is eligible
To qualify the MSMEs must

- Be domiciled and operating from the pre-selected counties
- Have been in operation for at least 3 years
- Preferably Be Women-Led / Women Owned
- Have at least 5 employees
- Have a turnover of at least kshs 1-5 Million
- Have primary operations in green sectors and implementing green solutions in their business model. The businesses that qualify have to be green businesses in the following sectors
- Sustainable Agriculture and agricultural processing
- Blue Economy and Aquaculture
- Renewable Energy
- Circular Economy and Waste Management including Biomass
- Eco-TourismOR
- Operate in greening Sectors (companies developing more environmentally friendly or resource-saving business Models Namely
- Transport and Logistics
- Construction
- Have primary operations in green sectors and implementing green solutions in their business model. The businesses that qualify have to be green businesses in the following sectors
